DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS
"Migration and Development" is a program initiated, funded and implemented by the Soros Foundation Romania.
The aim is to identify patterns of integration of external migration and its effects on central and local government policy and the promotion of models for minimizing the negative effects and maximize the positive ones.
The program was launched in 2006, in a specific context, around the time of the effective integration of Romania into the European Union.
Migration of Romanians kept under strict control during the communist regime, has exploded in the 90's, both as volume of migration flows, and of the destinations, of the reasons and of the socioeconomic status structure of the migrant population.
Migration followed an upward trend and involved all levels of society, becoming one of the most important migration flows in Europe. In recent years, external migration has become one of the defining phenomena Romanian Society.
In late 2006 Soros launched the first national research on the migration of Romanians abroad for work: “Temporary dwelling abroad. Economic Migration of Romanians: From 1990 to 2006”.
The study presents the profile of those who have left to work abroad (how, who, where and how) and the causes and consequences of migration for work abroad after 1989.
In March 2007 was released the second trial of the program policies and institutions in international migration: “Labor migration from Romania, from 1990 to 2006”.
The program continued in 2007 with a focused approach to issues that previous analyzes have revealed as the most important effects of migration.
