DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS
In a classroom there is an average of two students with learning troubles.

“Dys” learning troubles are complex troubles that have various forms. The best-known troubles are: dyslexia, la dysorthography, dyscalculia, la dysphasia, la dyspraxia and attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity.

These troubles are not easy to spot. For this reason, students who suffered from them are not always diagnosed. And still too many times, even when the trouble is known it is not taken into account.

This guide aims to provide information to teachers and educational teams so that all children can progress in their learning in spite of their specific needs.

The guide is divided in six parts:

TO KNOW
In the part, the authors present, with examples, the different learning troubles and their consequences.

TO SPOT, DIAGNOSE
This part proposes markers to educational teams, which are in the best position to spot learning troubles as these appear at school. But the diagnosis will be made by specialists (neuropediatricians, speech therapists, psychologists).

TO COOPERATE
This part addresses cooperation between teachers, therapists, social counsellors and parents.
Disseminating the most accurate information possible about what the student goes through in their different living spaces, in relation with learning, will contribute at best to their progress.

TO ADAPT, SUPPORT
This part addresses the adaptations in the classroom (additional time, use of computer, of a reading software program …) and home.
Children will progress more effectively if some aspects of their environments, some elements of the tasks are adapted.

TO INFORM
This part includes the applicable rule to adapt the examinations and the procedures to follow.

TO TRAIN, FIND THE TOOLS
This part proposes useful resources for teachers, students and parents.
COMMENTS ON THIS PUBLICATION
Helping students with “dys” troubles deserves particular attention from the teachers and educational teams.

The guide created by the Ministry of Education will help teachers better understand these learning troubles but also better spot them in order to adapt their teaching.

It contains various information, advice and external collaborations to support teachers in their educational mission.

Note that the colourful presentation and the structured layout, with many boxed texts, make it pleasant to read.
